In 1996, the revolutionary Viscount was withdrawn from passenger service. To commemorate the occasion, the Viscount 800 registered G-APEY with British World Airways took off for a final voyage on April 18, 1996 - 25 years ago - with several guests of honor on board, including Sir Edward George , chief designer of the Viscount and Sir Peter Masefield, former CEO of British European Airways who first brought the Viscount into service in 1953.
